PHOTOBOOKS. MOCK-UP COMPETITION IN LA FÁBRICA
Attention, Photographers, we want to publish your book, that photo project you’ve been working on for a while, but has yet to see the light of day. We want to join forces: La Fábrica’s experience in the field of photography along with your talent and enthusiasm.
We want to reach new authors to add top-quality books to our catalogue and make them known internationally. Each year and among all the photobooks we receive, we select one mock-up in order to, with the photographer and La Fábrica working together, turn the selected photobook mock-up into reality.
What do you provide?
Your photographs.
Your book mock-up.
The texts.
What does La Fábrica contribute?
The book production: printing, binding etc.
Quality control.
Communication through La Fábrica’s Communication Department together with the rest of our platforms.
The presentation of your photobook in La Fábrica and the chance for it to be exhibited there.
International distribution as the book will be included in La Fábrica’s catalogue.
Presence at international festivals: ARCO, Paris Photo, Les Rencontres d´Arles, PhotoEspaña, Madrid Book Fair, Kassel Fotobookfestival, among others, which will give your book the greatest exposure, travelling to the book and photography events attended by La Fábrica.
HOW TO TAKE PART
Any photographer from any country in the world can present his or her best project (only one) under this call for submissions. A photography collective may also take part.
The topic is up to you but we will bear in mind its international appeal.
It should be no longer than 160 pages and should be submitted as a physical mock-up -which we will then return to you at your own expense- or as a video of your mock-up.
If your project is chosen, we will request that your images be digitalized in print quality.
Naturally, your project should not have been published before in photobook format. Of course – you should hold the intellectual property rights to the project.
CALENDAR
· From now until the 17th of May for submission of your project.
· From 17th to 22nd of May La Fábrica reviews the projects received.
· From the 23th to the 29th of May La Fábrica advises the authors selected so that they can arrange their travel to Madrid and make a live (or skype) presentation of their project to the Advisory Team.
· From the 1st to the 8th of June the Advisory Team will review all of the works preselected in Madrid.
· July 1st: La Fábrica informs all participants of the winning mock-up. The remaining mock-ups will be returned to their authors if it is so requested.
HOW DO WE SELECT THE WORKS
In the projects submitted we look for:
The quality of the proposal, both the images as well as the design of the photobook.
The originality of the project seeking different subjects.
The project’s marketing possibilities.
Its international appeal.
Moreover, if your project comes along with financing ideas to be added to ours, if you have received some prize, if you have developed a communication and promotion plan on social media, etc., please let us know about those details.
Some members of La Fábrica Advisory Team shall be the ones responsible for the selection of projects.
Our Advisory Team is comprised of Andrea Aguilar, Mónica Allende, Simon Bainbridge, Sam Barzilay, Susan Bright, Ana Casas, Gonzalo Golpe, Bill Kouwenhoven, Sérgio Mah, Robert Pledge, Arianna Rinaldo, Alberto Salván and Paul Wombel.
