A National Photography Award recipient and one of our most emblematic photographers, Alberto Schommer made his mark in the visual history of Spain with his portraits of social and political leaders during the late Franco regime, Transition and Democracy.
The exhibition offers an opportunity to recall the history behind some of these photographs. It all began when the ABC newspaper commissioned Schommer to make portraits of “beautiful girls”. The photographer decided to do something entirely different from what he had been assigned, changing the course of Spanish photography: he embarked on the creation of a complete iconographic gallery of personalities from Spanish culture and society during the 20thcentury.
