«I only try to show what exists of transcendent in the human being, his spirit» , said Ricard Terré, one of the big documentary photographers of the 20th century. This catalan installed for 40 years in Vigo, left the photography during almost three decades before continuing, with immutable look, a work that had begun in the fifties and that today is rediscovered surprisingly modern, one of the most modern, undoubtedly, of the Spanish photography. Terré, one of the photographers chosen by Cartier Bresson for the exhibition that accompanied his retrospective a few years ago, was characterized by risky framings, accentuated contrasts and the search of the proximity with the models. His photography was not photojournalism but, rather, it might be defined as a photo essayist. His subjective gaze was looking for the soul beyond the face or the belief behind the ritual.
