163,000 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE EXHIBITIONS AND ACTIVITIES OF THE FIRST EDITION OF THE MADRID DESIGN FESTIVAL

The Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa registered the highest number of visitors at the exhibitions titled Jaime Hayon. Backstage; Household appliances of our lives. A History of Design, The Hofmann Collection; and Vinilygráfica, Masters of musical graphic design.

MadridDesignPRO, the festival’s professional program, at Madrid’s College of Architects ‘COAM’, brought together renowned professionals such as Rossana Orlandi, Jasper Morrison, Daan Roosegaarde and Abbott Miller for over 100 hours of activities

Madrid Design Festival welcomed a hundred institutions, brands and other exhibitors that organized 200 activities that featured 320 designers and professionals and 48 urban exhibitions and installations.

During its first edition, the festival recognized Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and Martí Guixé with the Madrid Design Awards.

The exhibitions continue at several venues in Madrid: Sorolla and Fashion at the Museo Thyssen and the Museo Sorolla until 27 May; Experience the difference at CentroCentro Cibeles until 20 May; Jennifer Steinkamp at Espacio Fundación Telefónica until 22 April.

163,000 attendants took part in the first edition of the Madrid Design Festival. The festival welcomed a hundred institutions, brands and other exhibitors that organized 200 activities that featured 320 designers and professionals and 48 urban exhibitions and installations.

The exhibitions titled Jaime Hayon. Backstage; Household appliances of our lives. A History of Design, the Alfaro Hofmann Collection; and Vinilygráfica, Masters of musical graphic design, held at the Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa; and MINI’s Montaña en la luna installations and Enorme Studio held at Plaza Soledad Torres Acosta and El Patio by Nacho Carbonell and Cervezas Alhambra at Central de Diseño – dimad were among the proposals with the greatest number of visitors.

MadridDesignPRO, the professional sessions at the Madrid Official College of Architects, which opened the festival to a more specialized audience, featured over 100 hours of activities with names such as Rossana Orlandi, Jasper Morrison, Daan Roosegaarde and Abbott Miller.

The guest city, Helsinki, transformed the Hotel Only You with the best of Finnish culture: a genuine sauna with a panoramic view of the city, a fashion show and the chef Jyrki Tsutsunen’s best dishes.

The Madrid Design Festival, in its first edition, was planned to be an international event related to design which, together with the Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa, its focal point, also featured activities at: Espacio Fundación Telefónica, the Madrid Official College of Architects and Conde Duque; as well as at guest venues such as the Museo ABC, Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas, Museo Sorolla, Museo Arqueológico Nacional, Museo del Romanticismo, Museo Lázaro Galdiano, Central de Diseño – dimad, Matadero Madrid, Medialab Prado, CentroCentro Cibeles, Biblioteca Nacional de España, Círculo de Bellas Artes, Fundación Giner de los Ríos Instituto Libre de Enseñanza, Centro Cultural Galileo, Café Comercial, Club Matador, MINI Hub, as well as various open spaces in the city.

Rado Star Prize Spain recognized the talent of younger designers at an exhibition at the Madrid Official College of Architects ‘COAM’ and the award went, ex aequo, to the project The chair, by Paula Claveria, for her interpretation of design from the standpoint of concept, and Kuria Table, by Pablo Vidiella Huguet.

Johnnie Walker recognized the trajectory and progress of the urban artist Tristan Eaton and turned the Café Comercial into the official after-work space, Johnnie Walker House, offering the festival’s musical program that became the reference point of the design nights with ambassadors such as Ana Locking, María Villalón and Leticia Dolera.

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and Martí Guixé received the Madrid Design Awards at the Fundación Giner de los Ríos Instituto Libre de Enseñanza during an event where their trajectory in the field of design was recognized. The purpose of these awards is to contribute to making design more democratic, conveying the importance of a practice that transforms our lives on a daily basis and of placing Madrid and Spain on the international design map.

This big design festival continues until May at several venues in Madrid: Sorolla and Fashion at the Museo Thyssen and the Museo Sorolla until 27 May; Experience the difference at CentroCentro Cibeles until 20 May; Jennifer Steinkamp at Espacio Fundación Telefónica until 22 April, among others within the Madrid Design Festival framework.
